Landel Veguilla Malave, otherwise known as Yandel, is a Puerto Rican musician, songwriter and record producer. Born in the 70’s before the rise of the reggaeton music he is known for today, Yandel worked as a barber before becoming a musician.
Yandel is most notable for partnering with Wisin, another Puerto Rican reggaeton musician, songwriter, and record producer. The two met in school and began their music career together in 1998, releasing their first album, Los Reyes del Nuevo Milenio in 2002, which reached the 35th spot on the Top Latin Albums chart. They later stablished their own record label, WY Records.
In 2007, the duo released the third highest-ranking reggaeton album on the mainstream chart, Wisin & Yandel: Los Extraterrestres. They also created the “Los Lideres” line of clothing in 2011, offering clothes inspired by Wisin & Yandel’s own style.
In 2013, the team went on hiatus; however, Yandel has continued to tour. He was nominated in 2014 for Favorite Urban Artist at both the Premios Juventud awards show and the Premios Tu Mundo award show, and in 2015 was nominated for the Favorite Urban Male Artist at the Latin American Music Awards.
Yandel recently performed in Monterrey, Mexico on March 5th and in Puerto San Jose, Guatemala on March 26th.
